Alex Ouma Okello

I have spent more than fifteen years working in the nonprofit sector, focusing on peacebuilding, conflict
management, community resilience, local governance, and protection. My drive to do this work comes
from personal experience of growing up in Gulu, in Uganda during years of conflict which shaped how I
view peace, justice, and the role of communities in shaping their own development.

This background opened doors for me to serve in different parts of the world, including Mozambique,
South Sudan, Nigeria, Afghanistan, the Philippines, and my home country Uganda. Along the way, I have
worked on building early warning systems for conflicts, strengthening community peacebuilding
mechanisms, supporting efforts to protect civilians during conflict, and strengthening community
participation in governance and human rights.

I am extremely passionate about public policy, good governance, and social justice, areas I believe are
key to lasting peace and development. Beyond work, I enjoy writing, listening to music, watching
football, and being a father. Writing, in particular, allows me to reflect, share stories, and connect my
professional journey with broader conversations on democracy, peace, and community development.
